Area Council/Town Hall Meetings

History of Area Councils

At an Annual Meeting in New York City on May 4, 1944, the National Council adopted a new constitution which provided for the establishment of Area Councils. Since that time, Area Councils have been organized in every state in which Boys & Girls Clubs are located and, in some states, several Area Councils have been formed. Texas is home to four Area Councils. These councils fulfill an important role in the structure of Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA).

The Boys & Girls Club Movement has be en greatly expanded and strengthened as a result of the work of Area Councils. Proposals initiated by local Area Councils have resulted in changes in the Membership Requirements for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Board members working together in Area Councils have raised millions of dollars to support programs for youth.

Texas Area Councils conduct townhalls during the State Summit every year.

Breakout sessions

Breakout sessions and panels provides an opportunity for Club CEOs, local and statewide Board Members, and Boys & Girls Clubs in Texas partners to gather, learn and grow together to support Club organizations and their communities and attend relevant sessions. Topics included membership, advocacy, addressing legislative priorities and attending legislative meetings, and program development classes.
